STAR
WARS
IMPERIAL STAR DESTROYER
(ISD) I
DEVASTATOR
Before the events of ‘A New Hope’ and
before the Emperor commissioned the first Super
Star Destroyer, Darth Vader’s flagship was the ISD
I Devastator. It is
recognisable from ISD IIs by its bridge
tower.
Vader last used the Devastator when he
tracked down and captured Princess Leia’s ship
over the planet
Tatooine.
Taking almost 3 years to make, this is the
one of a kind 4" scale figure toy that I
always wanted, and now I have built it. I just
wish I’d had one of these when I was a kid. And for
kids this Star Destroyer has been built. The ship
is constructed almost entirely of wood and all the
parts are quite chunky with nothing small to break
off (unless abused). It is
approximately 2 metres in length, 1.5 metres wide
and 1 metre high, it is rather large but built
solidly.
Caster wheels on the base allow for easy
movement and the top section can be removed for
storage and easier transportation. Not for
under 3s but great fun to play with from 6 – 60
year olds!
The ship is completely covered over with
removable panels and has been carefully detailed
and weathered. The rear
engines can be ignited with a simple push (they
are push on/off lights). Although
not entirely screen accurate (it would have been
the length of my street for that) the distinctive
shape is unmistakable. There are
many different rooms including an armoury, bridge,
cell bay, computer room, engineering (split over 2
levels), Darth Vader’s chamber, conference room,
troop rest room, medical bay and more. The
largest feature of the ship is the landing
bay.
The centre ramp lowers to the floor and can
launch or capture any ship from an A-wing to the
Millennium Falcon. The ramp
was designed around the Millennium Falcon, to play
that scenario if it were captured! Boasting 8
laser batteries an assault on this Star Destroyer
would not last long and any escaping craft would
be locked on with the tractor beam positioned on
the very front. Then there
is the hanger bay underneath the ship. 3 tie
fighters can fit comfortably on the racks, ready
to launch.
There are many figure stands to support
your troops located around the ship and over 33
seated positions. Just
imagine the smile on your little imperial’s face
receiving this toy as an early Christmas
present!
I suppose the ship would make a good shop
display but this was made to be played with. The figures
seen in the pictures are NOT
INCLUDED.
Now the bad news... There is
no way I can take this to the post office. Believe me
it is big.
Collection by transit van or trailer is
essential.
I can provide sufficient packing material
for its journey but collection will have to be
made soon as possible on completion of the
auction.
The reason for this is we are moving abroad
and can’t take it with us. I believe it is
possible for a courier company to collect the ship
but this arrangement will have to be made by the
buyer..
On
completion of sale I will be happy to supply a
CD-ROM containing 100s of progress photographs
taken during the construction. Also, all
of the sticker sheets used can be included (just
in case any need to be
replaced).
There is no reserve price but please
serious bidders only. If you have
any questions please email me and I will be
pleased to assist. While you're here, please
check out my other Star Wars and Star Trek
auctions.
There will be many more collections going
under the hammer soon.
Thank you for looking.
